I have a big family and need a larger vehicle for space. But is there a better vehicle.

Stay away from GM products at all cost.

.

Take a look at the Toyota Sequoia or Grand Highlander.  Keep in mind they are fairly new and so it’s not clear how durable/reliable they will be esp. with the turbocharged engines Toyota is now using.  In any event, they are still better choices than the Suburban.

.

Also, stay away from Ford and FCA products.

I'm with @daywalker and @kaizen on the Sequoia and GH suggestions.

The main issue with GM engines is the cylinder deactivation on the gas V8's (both 5.3 and 6.2) - stay away.  But the 3L Duramax diesel doesn't have that and seems to be a pretty reliable motor.  (Full disclosure: I have a 2022 Sierra with the 3L diesel.  It's early, but 0 issues in the first 40,000 miles.)  Course it would have all the other ups and downs of diesels, so you would need to do your own due diligence.

Or, you could always lease.

I'd not. Too fresh generation. You can take a look at Scotty's opinions about other vehicles

BUY IT

Sadly, Toyota doesn’t make a direct competitor in terms of size. The closet you would get is either the Sequoia or Grand Highlander.

The last year of the 2007-2014 suburban was a good vehicle.

If you’re willing to spend 75,000 on a new suburban, how about spending 30,000 on a 2014 suburban with low miles ?

nice and square looking.

lots of money left over to put new brakes, tires, and fluids in it.

Something to consider.

the other guys are correct and much smarter than me.

Toyotas are the bomb.

If you have to pull a boat or trailer get the seqouia.

If not, and you have kids, I would actually challenge you to consider the sienna minivan.
you can get it in AWD, and the newer ones get 35 mpg!
