Is the 2009 Toyota Matrix XRS known for its' rough ride?

My '09 Toyota Matrix (163k, 2.4L, FWD, Auto, stock struts) has a rough ride. It handles well with no noises but I can feel every bump on a rough road.

Has anyone cured their rough ride with new struts/springs? The struts are stock and I am considering replacing them.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

Can you clarify if the ride was always rough, or you mean it has degraded since you bought it?

I don't know if it's always been rough since I've had the car for only 6 months. The ride has been the same since I've owned it.

To my knowledge, EVERY Matrix has a rough ride - Scotty has repeatedly mentioned that as the one major fault with the car, and I agree ( I have one).  Perhaps somebody has found shocks that reduce the harshness in the rear suspension (the front is not such a problem) but I haven't heard of one. This forum is Matrix-focused, so it may be a place to look for recommendations:

i must have missed Scotty's comments concerning this.
Thank you for the link!

It is a short wheel base car, you don't expect to have a smooth ride, even smaller Lexus cars have relatively rough ride. You can inspect the suspensions and tires though.
