My cars always have very low mileage, and I keep them serviced. The following has happened more than once. As soon as I pay off my car and the warranty expire, usually 5 to 6 years on buying a brand new car, the engine light comes on a few months afterwards. The first time it's a minor fix. the second time usually about 6 months later it's a major fix. Are they doing something to get me to trade in my car for a new one and the get to resell the old one that has low low milage? I wonder if this has happened to anyone else. signed: Skeptical
Clarification: Which cars (year, make, model)?
This is why I think I am being scammed. In 2006, I bought a Dodge grand caravan - I bought it brand new and after 5 years it was paid off, and warranty expired. The first time the engine light came on and they didn't find anything wrong. About 6 months later it came on again and I would be charged $800 to $1000 dollars to fix something I never heard of. The same thing happened to my 2014 sonic. I had 2 warranties on it. The second would take over after the first expired. When the first expired , my sonic just stopped running. First the dealership said they didn't know why it stopped. After the dealership found out about the second warranty they said a fuse went out. Now the second warranty expired, the engine light came on again and I'm being charged $800 to fix God knows what. It's still at the dealership so I don't know the specifics. I only have about 20,000 miles on it. It gets services regularly on time. So for this has happen to the last 2 cars I have owned. I feel like I am being scammed into buying another car so they can have a low mileage trade in to resell. I wish I could have it disconnected completely from any tracking device. Cars without tracking devices last longer.
Thanks 🙂
You probably bought gm crap, and if that's the case, then yes it is common to most people because of the low quality. I think German cars probably don't last 5 to 6 years without a dazzling light show.
I would not say it is a scam per say. Cars just aren't built as good as they used to be.
