I was wondering if this rust on my 2008 Toyota 4runner Limited 4WD is something I should keep an eye on or take action to. It has about 113,000 miles, with the 4.7 liter i-force V8 engine. I didn't notice this earlier, and it seems to have eaten through first layer of the metal.

In the Northeast that wouldn't even raise an eyebrow. Around here THIS is rust:

I wouldn't say its serious at all.
Some Toyota pickups were recalled and had some undercoating put on due to a risk of rust problems (my '03 Tundra had that recall) but they didn't include the 4Runners. You might want to follow along on a lawsuit that I think is still going on for some rust issues on 2005-2011 4Runners. Just do a little googling.
