Hi Scotty,
We recently purchased a 2015 Ford Mustang Coupe (V6) for my son. The car has 115K miles. About 2 weeks after purchasing it (from a Mazda dealer in Oklahoma) the car started experiencing intermittent issues starting.
Initially, we thought it was the battery, which we’ve since replaced. Didn’t resolve the issue. We’ve also replaced the starter. Again, didn’t resolve the issue.
We’ve since dropped it off at our local Ford dealer. They’ve had it for a week and still haven’t figured out what’s going on.
Any thoughts?
Cheers,
Eric
@edwilson
Does it crank?
When it experiences the issue, it just clicks. It sounds like a dead battery issue, but the battery is fine. Funny thing is if you slap some jumper cables on it it will start. Alternatively, if you just let it sit for maybe 15-20 minutes it will also start. Very weird.
Quick update. We figured out what the problem was. It turns out there was a GPS tracking device installed on the car tucked up under the dash. The wiring of this tracker was total garbage. After removing it and actually soldering the original wiring paths we haven’t had an issue with it.
We’re not sure if the previous owner had the device installed or possibly a finance company. The device was from a company called PassTime GPS, and like I said the installation was a real hack job. We assume the electrical tape and crimp connectors were either loose or allowing interference across wires.
Might be worthwhile for long term expectations by pulling the carfax on it... if a rental car company owned it, I'd think about trading... Glad you got it fixed and I really bet your son is : )

Car needs spark , fuel and air to begin with.
Start off at this .. and begin to look at other problem... but it with ford and they cant get it to start .. I would bring it to someone else.
Can you ask them what did ford check ?
@klob
Ford are the ones that suggested the starter. I went down and picked the car up from them, drove it home, and tried restarting it in my driveway. Wouldn’t start. I called the dealership and was told the porter had an issue getting it started to bring it out to me. They suggested I let it sit for a little bit and then try again, so I left it for about 15 minutes. Started right up after that. I took it back to the dealership and they’ve had it ever since.
