Keep the Jeep or Wife?

Topic starter

My wife took my '83 Jeep CJ7 4 speed for a drive. Now I have to shift into fourth to get into 1st. Any suggestions? Should I sell my Jeep, my wife...or both?

An old Jeep is forever but you can always get another wife. 🙂

Actually what I would do is check out the shift linkage, maybe she managed to knock something out of adjustment. (I assume it's manual since an '83 with automatic would only have 3 cogs.)

😆

I mean the Jeep lasts longer than your wife. So......

Along with the shift linkage, check the clutch system for proper adjustment.  You will undoubtedly get more miles out of a wife than of any Jeep vehicle.  They are just not very reliable (the Jeep that is).

Is it really a 1983? That's 38 years old. That's when jeep used rambler engines.

What is a Rambler? Just kidding.

Yeah, an '83 Jeep would have the 258 inline six which was based on Rambler's 232 six that debuted in 1964. It was a long-lived series of engines running from 1964-2006 (I think until 2014 in China), of course with a lot of engineering changes along the way. The block was redesigned a few times but the basic architecture was retained.

What’s your wife’s make and model? If the quality is anything close to a Toyota or Honda, she might be worth keeping. Toyota and Honda’s aren’t perfect. But out if all the other makes, they are reliable, last a long time. Same could be true for your wife.

Keep the wife, ditch the Jeep.

So much easier to replace the Jeep, and so much cheaper too.

Unfortunately, it's going to cost you a WHOLE lot more to ditch the wife! Keep the Jeep.
