Who makes Genesis?
Are they any good or just another P O S in a shiny wrapper?
It's a Hyundai brand - junk.
My 2012 Genesis 5.0 R-Spec needed a new transmission at 136K miles. i gave the car a few months ago to my 43 year old son at 186K. The engine had developed an oil leak from the manifold gasket (I think) at around 150K. The engine seized and died at 194K last week. I bought it new and had relatively few problems with it over the years. The performance of the car is awesome and the ability to use regular fuel with a loss of only 8 horsepower over premium is amazing. The most bothersome issue was repeated check engine light indications due to oxygen sensor issues, and the dealer was not competent enough to figure out the root cause(s).
My 2014 Genesis 5.0 R-Spec now has 21K miles (at age 72, I now drive very little), and it has had no issues at all, being in perfect condition in and out.
Both were/are luxurious cars with all the bells and whistles. In my opinion, the build quality is excellent; almost as good as the various Toyotas and Hondas that I have owned over the past 35 years, BUT, the Toyotas and Hondas I have owned have been pretty much bulletproof while the engine and electrical systems of the Genesis will have more issues.
Go ahead and get the Genesis, if you like trying to polish a turd.
Loll
They are pretty good cars - certainly not on the level of Lexus in terms of reliability and build quality, but Genesis is making great strides and their newest GV80 and G90 are very appealing. Even if you buy them new, they come with the long 10 year/100K mile power train warranty and 5 year/60K mile bumper to bumper warranty. Leasing might be the way to go since they do depreciate pretty quickly. But, you can get great deals on Genesis models that are lightly used with only a few thousand miles. If you want good luxury, nice styling, and great value you can’t really beat Genesis.
Hyundai owns the Genesis brand (Used to be Hyundai-Genesis but they separated into separate brands for what appears to be marketing reasons, or "luxury image").
Like the previous answer said, you have "good" value for the money in terms of technology compared to your typical luxury brand. On paper it looks good, but it's not the most reliable brand. For a bit extra money, you could get something like a Acura or Lexus that will last at least twice as long. (If taken care of)
That would be Junk.
Hyundai makes it. They are very luxurious. Great value for the money when compared to Mercedes or BMW. I would say you get more for your money
They depreciate fiercely and there is a reason for that. If you really want a Genesis probably best to lease a new one. You would not want to own one of those cars out of warranty.
It’s owned by the Hyundai Motor Group and while they made strides in exterior and interior design and overall quality they are still a Hyundai product and time will tell how the new Genesis products will last. Based upon history of the Hyundai Motor Group, if you really like their vehicles I recommend to lease them. If you buy, get rid of before the warranty expires. If you truly want luxury, build quality, and reliability, get a (used) Lexus. But if you are turned off by their styling and price and must have a Genesis product (or want to try out), just lease it.
The Genesis could be a Diamond in the rough, if you buy it used at a super depreciated price. You would be getting a lot of car for such a low price. (Assuming it all checks out and there is a decent life span left in it.)
I got to check some out during a car show, and the features are super luxurious.
I prefer lexus or acura over genesis. Don't get me wrong genesis are fun car to drive and worth the asking price if compared to German car brand like BMW and Mercedes. I won't recommend buying it only leasing it.
But if you get good deal on used I say go for it and use it as long as it last as long as you don't spend huge fortune on it. There price drops really fast for example you can get from 2014 for price between $15000 to $26000 and then sell it later on once it start given major problems.
They might be luxurious but Koreans have cut corner in manufacturing cost to save money and make profit. So the car has engine problems, electronic problems and electrical problems
