Hi Scotty, my name is Cole. I have a 1999 honda accord LX v6 approximately 168,000 miles. I'm currently getting  transmission fixed/rebuilt. I'm am spending rebuild cost of $2000. But is there any other problems or situations with the car I should be aware of! And should I upgrade it or leave it stock? Thank you for reading my question. P.s. my wife and I love your videos.

Maybe try looking on craigslist. You may be able to find another 1999 honda for less than 2k and with less miles. Just a thought. Goodluck!

Thanks but when my wife and I were looking mostly everything has been worse than ours

I would leave it stock and get the most life out of the engine. It is really impossible to predict what could happen to a vehicle. All you can really do is maintain it and hope for the best.

Thanks for advice. I just have a couple honda fanatic friends that keep telling me to upgrade it. They suggested full cold air intake, titanium valve springs and retainers, new exhaust, and a turbo.

Are they buying? Lol. You don't need titanium valve springs and retainers first off. That's a total waste. As for going turbo, it will cost you more than the car is worth.

I thought the cold air was the only one I'd want to do but I was unsure of the titanium. Don't worry I think installing a turbo is a waste of money and way to much dam work to help me get even more tickets in the car {black}:grinning:

X2 on what Mod Man said.  Leave it stock, drive it easy, keep it maintained correctly and hope for the best.

Leave it stock.

I have a 1999 Accord Coupe with 270K+ miles.

1) Make sure the timing belt and balancing belt are changed on schedule. If it hasn’t been changed, it’s a good idea to change it given its age. (And while you are at it, change water pump, since the belts are off.

2) It might be a good idea to change the door latch mechanism on the driver side. I had mine fail at ~250K miles.

3) Enjoy the car!!!

Thanks for advice I was thinking about doing water pump and belt cause I found a kit with all that included for I think 300-400 but I need to replace all 4 calipers and figure out why my rear passenger tire has a really bad toe problem but nothing is broken, bent or worn out

What’s up with the calipers? What symptoms are you seeing?

They are seizing here and there and I've done so much work to the car so I figure i do a break over haul in one go plus I need rotors in rear and pads in front

I wouldn't be upgrading anything in a 22yo car.

I wouldn't even spend money on the tranny to be honest.

My wife loves the fact it's a older car and we both really enjoy it but right before tranny blew I put all 4 new struts, inner and outer tie rods, upper & lower control arms, upper & lower balljoints, sway bar links, both CV axles, all 4 wheel bearings. But I do appreciate your honesty

I hope you get your money's worth out of it 🙂

So far the car earned its money before tranny blew and the only reason it blew was design flaws honda made with the 2nd gear valve and torque converter but the tranny specialist hasnt giving me a quote for it yet he has been back up on other builds. The 2000 was for him to stop everything else and work on it but I don't need it back in any hurry so price will be cheaper not by much 😆

Leave it stock. Also, while the transmissions are weak the engines can last forever.
