Hi, Scotty love you channel. I am at a lose about my Jeep I follow the instruction on installation of the CV shaft and do not know why it keeps breaking. As long as I do not use the four wheel drive it does not break but as soon as I put it in part time or full time four wheel drive I make it about three blocks and it breaks. Any ideas what is happening. If you need more information let me know and I will give you all I know.
Just to let you know this is the second time it has happened and they where brand new CV shafts. I have done this kind of work before and have not had this problem.
Thank you
Devon Weaver
Are you driving straight or turning left or right when the axle breaks?
Thanks for the reply, The cv shaft brakes shortly after when I am stopped and have placed the jeep into part time or full time four wheel drive. I start driving not getting into the gas just nice and easy while driving straight.
Thank you
Devon W
Where is it breaking? At the wheel boot, transaxle boot, the shaft itself? If these are the super cheap rebuilds they themselves may be defective.
The breaking point is the transaxle boot. I have now broke two new ones
I was wondering if that could be the case. Both cv axles came from the same store and same brand. Though I cannot imagine getting two that are defectives. Frustration
There ARE some really crappy rebuilders out there selling to stores.
Here is a thought....is it the correct LENGTH? check into that. Some cars the left or right are different lengths and you may have the wrong size. Did you MATCH up the first one you put in to the old one???
So your suggestion would to try a part from another part store. Any Idea what could cause it to brake not once but twice.
I did match them up but it was a thought about the length. I will get on jeep web site to find the info.
Thank you. Though it did go on like it should and did not seem to be binding. Also to let you know that I do not have a problem when the jeep in in two wheel drive. I can turn and drive anywhere but once I put it into part / full time four wheel drive is when it brakes.
Sure, when torque is applied to that joint its HUGE. Thats why my concern on quality. Do a google search on the BRAND name of the shaft you bought and see what turns up. I wonder if something could be wrong in the transfer case side? Almost sounds like a Revolution mismatch...tire turning say 100RPM and transfer case turning it only 95rpms. We need a jeep or transaxle expert to pipe in.
I agree, it would help.
Did a quicky search, left and right shafts different
I do know they are different though your idea of revolution issue could be. Meaning that they keep giving me the wrong part. I want to thank you and other that have tried to help. If anyone has an idea I am all ear's.
Hopefully SCOTTY chimes in...............this is a brain twister. Did the original joint "break" and that is why your changing it? Or was it just worn and floppy on turns? If it broke, something else caused it to break.
The original joint did not brake just worn. But you gave me an Idea, I will put the old one back in and see if it will have the same issue. Call jeep dealer and they do not know or do not carry that part anymore.
heading out for a little bit. be back later thank you very much. I will let you all know
Hey great idea!! Its futile work but will answer the replacement shaft questions we have!
Well guy's I talked to the parts guy and he feels that he has never heard of this happening. So tomorrow I will try the old cv shaft. I do have another new one one its way and we will find out.
Gov how did you make out?
Well guys I'm back sorry it took me so long. Well thanks to our great automotive parts stores they gave me a CV shaft or half shaft that was supposed to replace the original one that came for my 2003 Jeep Liberty so happened to get one of the old style. I put this one in and now have no problems so far. Porkchophill thank you for trying to help me.
Now onto the next project, 1989 Chevy s10 blazer. Fuel and brake line replacement, body work, and last getting a windshield put in after straitening the roof when a tree branch fell onto it.
Is the Jeep suspension modified?
