Land Cruiser Automatic Shifter Leather worn after 40,000 miles?

Just a general question, but I think Ive made my mind up. Do you guys think it's possible to totally wear out the leather on a Land Cruiser 100 2001 with 40,000 miles on the clock?.

You know the ones with the wooden automatic shifters with leather on both sides. The leather is worn away completely. Even if you had sweaty palms and you were shifting that in constant city driving, its still only got 40,000 miles on it.

And the wood on the sterring wheel is worn as well. I'm thinking they put the odometer back.

Thanks folks.

On the clock - yes.

Actual miles - most likely, no.

One of the ways to gauge what's a car's real millage is shifter and steering wheel condition.

Is always a possibility that the leather quality on the shifter was total crap, but that's unlikely.

Do you even have to look at the wheel and shifter? 99% of cases 1,900 miles a year is too little to be real millage.

If that wasn't obvious, the steering wheel, and shifter are good indications that the odometer probably was rolled back.

The vehicle and the leather is 21 years old. Even with low mileage, in summer the temperature inside the cabin reaches well over 100F and uv from the sun, and in winter deal with the cold. So that's a lot of extreme temp cycles over 21 years. But from your last sentence, doesn't appear the steering wheel and shifter match the mileage. I'd steer clear of it.

You are likely correct. The Land Cruisers are high quality cars and you do not usually see they wear out in this mileage. You can also check the pedals and they should look almost brand new.
