2019 Toyota Corolla, bought with 30,000 miles.. in 2021. moved across the country and did first drain and fill service at a transmission shop in 2023 in Knoxville TN. It was at about 50,000 miles. Been doing oil changes myself, so I noticed some leakage from the transmission drain plug at my first oil change after the service, probly a couple months after. I called and went back to the same shop. I asked them to please check the level after it was tightened and make sure it didnt leak a lot. They said they retightened it and the level was fine, but I also lost some trust. Now I just hit 100,000 and I’m a little past due for another transmission drain and fill/filter. Doing oil change yesterday we noticed again some leakage but around the side of the drain pan. We looked up the torque specs for the pan bolts and none of them were close. Then my husband inspected closer and saw that instead of using a gasket it appears they used some kind of silicone seal the pan. I don’t know why this was done, or if it’s common on newer cars rather than using a gasket? To him he thinks it’s the reason for the leaking. I made an appointment for a different mechanic that has good reviews. As of right now my car is still shifting and reversing fine, so im assuming I haven’t lost a lot of fluid. I’m going to ask them how much fluid drains out and how much they needed to add to fill it but I am worried. Could this have taken years off this transmission? Should I ask for a regular gasket to be placed instead of using more silicone when they remove the pan the change the filter?

Absolutely. 100%. I can confirm that CVT gaskets are available for this vehicle (listed on rockauto.com).
The first shop probably didn't have one, didn't want to wait, and said "good enough. ship it"
Bunch of hacks.

It depends how low the fluid got. If it was just seeping slowly and only a few drops came out then you're fine. If it was serious you would have noticed a puddle in your driveway right?
