Leaving Key in Accessory Position Overnight

Dear Friends,

Hope all is well...

Somehow I left the key in the Ignition switch overnight in the Accessory position. Yes I do feel foolish!

The 1990 Fox wagon started normally the next morning and ran okay all day. That night when I tried to start it it would turn over and barely start/run then it would stop. After several times I tried the following.

I changed the Fuel Pump Relay and it started normally. (I switched the older relay with a newer replacement.)  Then to verify what I did. I temporarily replaced the old relay and it started as well. 😕  :unsure:But I replaced it with the newer one and left it.

Could there an intermittent issue with the older fuel pump relay? What else might leaving the key in the ignition in the accessory position do?

Any help or suggestions very much appreciated. I don't need to get stranded somewhere.

Sincerely, Raphael

It could be.

Nothing but draining the battery if the lights are on.

Thank YOU! no lights were on. I simply got out of the car and may have caught my sleeve on the Key and moved it into the accessory position. Battery is new and in good shape. We know we need, Air, Spark and Fuel. What about a Fuel filter or how often do you suggest replacing them? Maybe a faulty coolant temperature sensor? What do I know? That's why I'm on here seeking some help and ideas.
Take care, Raphael

If you don't know when the fule filter was changed, it might be a good idea to change it now. For the interval, check the owner's manual. After changing the fuel filter, pressure test the fuel pump to check its health.
About changing the coolant temperature sensor, you should diagnose the issue first and then change parts accordingly.

Thank You!!
Brand new BOSCH Main fuel pump replaced 1/9/2020. Fuel filter at the same time but I only drive about 5K a year and I use high test petrol, Lucas SAFEGUARD Ethanol fuel conditioner and Marvel Mystery oil at every fill up.
