Hello community and Scotty,
I have a Lexus GS 430 2003 and on the owner manual said that using SAE GL-5 90 for the rear differential when the degree is below 0F and GL-5 80W90 for the temperature above 0F or -18C. When I asked the auto part store they said that my fluid is 80W90 and all the store I asked did not carry SAE 90 anymore. Is it ok that I use 80W90. Right now I have 2 qts of Amsoil Servere Gear GL-5 80W90. Please give me an advice. Thanks.
What is the lowest (worst-case) temperature in your area? If you never see temperatures down that low, then you have answered your own question via the owner’s manual.
I don't understand the confusion. The manual is pretty clear.
The thing is SAE 90 GL-5 is not available at auto part store anymore. And San Jose, California is not below 18F, that is why I am asking pls dont assume I did not read owner manual.
Yes, you answered your own question and the auto parts store also said to use the GL-5 80w-90. Multigrade oils are better than the single anyways.
Just update guys, the car is now running 80W90 Amsoil brand and running very Ok after a year <3 My car was made in 2002 so it is 80W90 but for the one after March 03 (I could be wrong on this but it wont be that much different) Lexus requiring only 75W90.
they probably squeeze out a fraction of a MPG to make the EPA happy that way
