Scotty,
I hope today is a good one for you and yours.
I'm in need of a budget car.
I watched your video on the Lexus IS350 and I've become focused on the "2nd generation" models from 2006 - 2013. The combination of RWD with fully independent suspension and the 300hp V6 appeals to me.
These models are easily found on the used market at an attractive price.
These are also the years plagued by the decomposing dash problem. I have to believe that this is part of the reason such an appealing car is available at such a low price. I know that Lexus replaced many dashboards under an extended warranty, but that warranty is now expired. And there are cars out there that have not had the dash replaced.
Removing and re-installing the dash doesn't frighten me.
I found the Sticky Dash Fix product, https://stickydashfix.com/
My question: do you know anyone who has used this product, and do you know if it would be a reliable solution if competently applied?
Also, almost all these cars have a sunroof, which I do not trust, especially in an older car. Having water leaks ruining my interior in the middle of winter is a nightmare. Do you know if the Lexus sunroof is any more reliable than most, if properly maintained?
If it were necessary to let it remain closed and disable the motor, that would be ok with me. Or, to apply sealant also, to permanently seal it would be ok as well.
A sunroof is nice, but not at the expense of keeping the interior clean and cozy.
Thank you Scotty for your time and attention.
We appreciate you man.
I send my cracked and disintegrating dashboards to Just Dashes, Van Nuys, CA for a complete rebuild, better than new. A good body shop could probably help you with the inevitably leaking sunroof problem.
I'm in need of a budget car.
Get a Corolla or Camry.
It's been since the early 90s for the one I have now (1981 Toyota pickup) and several I don't have anymore when I was restoring Porsche 911s years ago.
Thank you again, Doc.
Be well!
