Lexus RX300 2001 reliability opinions

Hi Scotty,

Hope everything is going well in Tennessee.

I saw a Lexus RX 300 AWD from 2001 for pretty cheap (roughly 4000$). It’s got 213’000 Km and an automatic transmission.

Are there any known issues with this model? What questions should I ask the seller and what should I inspect on this “old” vehicle?

Thanks for your help.

Love your videos!

Cheers from Switzerland.

Those are very reliable vehicles just bring it to a mechanic and I would offer less no more than 3k but those are still excellent.

I would have a mechanic check it out and if all is good, sounds like a decent deal. Those were pretty reliable vehicles and could go a long time if properly cared for.

@mod_man
Thanks for the quick answer!

Just check the AWD more carefully.

I have the same car but from 1999 with 340,000 km. It still drives well but I have been replacing parts on it over the last 6-8 months. My speedometer just recently went out and I don’t know how to fix it. I’ve had to have almost all the control arms replaced due to the old bushings and the car is a big oil consumer due to its age. Another thing I have found out is that this car is notorious for air/fuel mixture issues which I have encountered as well my problems improved after replacing the VVT sensors and sealing up any air leaks. Overall this car is great, comfortable for winter weather as I live in Canada and we get them pretty bad here. Hope this helps in your decision.
