Hey Scotty,

I’m driving a 2007 RX350 AWD and I like to keep driving it for a bit. It’s almost 15 years old, and yes, it still gets me everywhere I go. At 130K the 2gr-fe engine does these typical 2gr-fe things, but hey, if’s it sounds like an older engine and it is 15 years old, it is properly an old engine.

As a sign of good faith I paid a mechanic the other day to replace my spark plugs. I just didn't want him to go look for all the cars problems because, you know, I'm trying to be smart with my money. Now, 'recently' there’s this new sound, maybe a valve or something but can’t really pinpoint it (link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAgZlRbRACM ). Do you know what’s up, and how would you troubleshoot this one?

Thanks!

Mark

I might be wrong, but I think the noise you have comes from both the valves and serpentine belt. Remove the belt to see if the sound change, if so, change the belt. About the valves, you just live with it since that engine rebuild is very expensive.
