Lexus struts issue

I brought my 2015 Lexus ES350 to a franchise store for a state inspection. It had 80k miles. There were no suspension sounds before I brought it. They said the top of the strut mounts are making a clicking sound and it indicates the struts may need to be replaced. When I drove away the struts did make clicking noises when driving over bumps for about two days. Then they became quiet again. I called the dealer. The dealer said unless they are leaking they should be good until about 140-150k miles. What did the franchise do to make the struts click like that? I know they wanted to get a $1,000 strut job and in this economy nothing surprises me. I just don’t understand how they could make the struts click like that.

loose nut, worn mounts, ... ? Could be many things. Better have it inspected and next time request that they show it to you.
