Should I buy a diesel mazda

Hey, I'm living in Ireland and there's loads of mazda 6 tourings going for good money but they have ALL got the 2.2 diesel.

I love the car and theres plenty off them but I've heard a lot of bad thing about carbon build up in the engines, map sensors, dpf's and clogging.

Should I look at buying one and inspect the cylinder for carbon build up, maybe get the engine walnut blasted if it becomes an issue, or use fule additives.

Or should I just walk away and find something else???

With the 2.2L MZR-CD it's really a gamble considering how badly Mazda screwed up completely. Obvious signs to look out for if you take it for a drive is high fuel consumption, sluggish acceleration (even for a diesel) and random loss of power in the engine. If you do find that seem's fine and you like it, it's best to have a mechanic check it out to see if it doesn't have any underlying signs that may lead to oil dilution, carbon build-up, or faulty injectors. I believe the root problems are the injectors and oil sieve. The easiest option would be to walk away and find something else, but it's your choice

I haven't looked up the car specs, but by comparison I have a Lexus IS220D 2006. I don't think the first iteration I've got has all the DPF systems in place like later versions, but it's got direct injection, an EGR, and DPNR.

If given the choice I wouldn't buy it again and would stay away from diesels. Having said that I consistantly get 52MPG. I can do motorway driving @ 70 miles a day x 5 days and use 1/2 a tank all week depending on my driving.

I suppose you have to weigh the pros and cons. As far as carbon buildup goes, I can say that the EGR + systems gets carbon on it almost as soon as you clean them and I suspect the rest of the engine does as well.

Just look at all the crap they've added to diesels and it just doesn't seem worth the MPG to me. But that's just me.
