A client complained that when he was on motion is airbag shot. Eventually, he noticed that the smoke was emanating from the engine bay. Hence, he pop-up the hood and saw that the smoke was coming from the ABS module. He called a mechanic to unplug the ABS module connector. Afterward, the connector was connected back. Henceforth, he has noticed that his steering is stiffer to steer. Additionally, he said : "the car isn't moving smoothly as before."
Yesterday, he called and said even the headlight and other lights aren't working again in the car.
The check light appears first, brake light second then finally the P/S light appears. They lights don't come out at once. It's a 2010 Toyota Corolla Le.
Please how do I fix the problem?
The client is a novice about car and was unable to give me a good explanation. I didn't see any sign of airbag shooting when I saw the car personally. I told him that the airbag is still Ok. He made a mistake in his explanation. The only thing I saw was that the ABS connector was unplugged and headlights were bad in the car.
What i noticed from the car was that when it's first started the RPM raise to about 2,500 and then drops to about 700 RPM on it's own.
Probably there could be a short on the instrument cluster as well because I noticed a blink once after about every 25 seconds throughout idling except the car is shut-off. He said that was how it was when he purchased the car from someone till date.
In addition, the speed clock doesn't raise when driving and the car is intermittently hard to start.
P0335 and P0500 were the only codes I retrieved
Your client will probably have to replace his ABS module.
Afterall, that's where he noticed smoke coming from. The ABS module is on the high speed CAN Bus Network and if it's shorting out it can mess up the network communication voltage signals between the other control modules and the PCM on the rest of the HS network.
Stuff like engine control systems, steering sensor, yaw rate sensor, cluster, and any other controls like lighting that either communicate on the HS network itself or are linked to it from a slower network through a gateway module.
To see the HS CAN+ (CAN HI) and CAN- (CAN LO) voltage signals you'd hook up a breakout box to pins 6 and 14 on the Data Link Connector and using a scope observe the voltage signals to see if they are corrupted (shorted by either a wiring problem or a bad module on the network ((such as your client's ABS module)).

Thank you so much for the info. However, I don't have the CAN scan yet.
how can I easily diagnose a short
follow the smoke

Well unfortunately a smoke was coming from the ABS module that meant damage is occurring electronically. Once you get electric damage, realize pretty much the entire cars electrical system is connected together. So a short and something like the ABS can migrate through and start shorting everything else out. It could be a real stinker tracing all the shorts on an out with all those different systems going out. But start by the ABS and trace the wiring back and pray you can find the shorts close to it and that they haven't migrated further away and destroyed computer modules. Good luck
Thank you so much sir. Please how can I easily diagnose a short to ground in that area?

Afterward, the connector was connected back
Unplug it. If it smokes then that means the module is shorted out and it's doing damage.
It's sucking power from all the other systems, and bogging down your engine, alternator, power steering etc.
Get it scanned for codes to find out what's wrong. Free at auto parts stores.
