Hello,
I am looking to purchase my first car and while I would go with a Toyota or Honda, they are just too expensive. I am looking at a 1997 Ford Escort Wagon LX with 108,000 Miles, and it has a 4-cylinder engine and a 5-speed manual transmission the owner wants $3,800 USD. If the millage the owner is saying is true should I buy it?
Thanks,
John
It's 25 years old so expect age-related issues. (Are you handy with tools?) Those have a reputation for engine problems. At least with a manual transmission there wouldn't be a flaky automatic to worry about. Be sure to have any used car that you buy inspected by a good mechanic before purchase. (If the seller won't let you do that, run away.)
