Hi Scotty, love your channel! I have a 2007 Toyota Tacoma base model with a 2.7L DOHC VVT-i engine/2TRFE and a 5 speed stick shift. It has 140k miles and P0420 codes from "hammer modded" cats. It burns a bit of oil consuming about a half quart per 1000 miles and the occasional puff of smoke from the tail pipe. Compression is about 160psi on all cylinders. It's had a funny idle for a long time where it sits around 650-700 RPM, doesn't misfire, but isn't smooth like it should be with an irregular stumble that's barely noticeable. Live data numbers are good with lambda always around 1.000 and fuel trim around +3.0%. I've given up on it being smooth because it's old, been driven hard, towed a lot, and seen many rough roads. I've done the head gasket, coils, plugs, MAF, O2 sensors, crank position sensor and just about everything else that I can think of besides the cam position sensor. So my question is, when it's coasting in neutral it idles around 900 and when it's idling at a stop it's more like 650-700. Why does it do that? And any help on the irregular idle would be great too. Thanks man. Keep saving us!
Well, I'm assuming you removed the cats or something by your discussion on hammor modded ones. And if you did that message with the oxygen sensor data which will make things go squirrely. Now of course you could look for vacuum leaks could be leaking intake, manifold leaking, vacuum lines, leaking brake booster. Lots of things can cause that
