Looking to buy 2014 XV Crosstrek

Hi Scotty, I was looking to buy a Subaru XV Crosstrek 2014 with the CVT transmission (55,000 miles). It was in a fender bender and the mechanic I'm buying it from replaced the front bumper and a headlight. It was also pulling slightly to the right and the steering wheel was shaking a little while driving. The mechanic said he would get the wheels balanced and alligned and that this would fix the problem. Is it worth buying? Hes asking $8k.

Thanks

Is it worth buying?

Sounds a bit sketchy, there may have been more damage from that "fender bender" than the seller is letting on. Mileage is suspiciously low and needs to be verified. How did this mechanic come to be selling this thing? Did it have a serious problem and the owner bailed, leaving it with him?

You need to have another mechanic give the car a thorough examination before purchase.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm thinking it might be worth it to spend a little extra money and just get a Toyota Matrix. There's a few in my area with low mileage that I'll be looking at this week.

I’m with @chucktobias on this one. Definitely need an independent mechanic inspection.
I haven’t looked at Crosstrek pricing recently. But that’s definitely an older one and I don’t know how well those early ones have held up, especially for a CVT model.
The shaking might be more than just tire balance; I’d be suspicious it has a wheel bearing (or several) going out.
Could be a good little car, especially with low miles. But it also could be one of Scotty’s endless money pits if you aren’t careful.

just get a Toyota Matrix.

Don’t forget to avoid the ones with the notorious oil burning 2.4L engines.

All the best!
