Hello Scotty and Team,
As the title states I'm looking for a used car and have found a 2018 Honda Accord Sport with 75,000 miles for $19,623. It has a CVT and a 1.5l Turbo engine. What is your opinion on the vehicle itself, I know some of the Honda's with the 1.5l engines had issues and obviously I'd like to know if it'd be worth the purchase or if I should go for a 2017 Accord with a 2.4l engine and a CVT. Both cars are being sold by Honda dealerships, both of which my parents have purchased vehicles from and have had good experiences with both.
Thank you for any insight!
2017 was the final model year of that generation while 2018 was the first model year of the newer generation and first year they used the 1.5L turbo in the Accord. Between those 2 options (you didn’t state the mileage on the 2017) and assuming you plan to keep for a long time and put upwards of 200,000 miles on it I would go with the 2017 with the 2.4L naturally aspirated engine with the caveat below:
.
Any used car needs to have a good service history (engine oil and transmission services done on time) especially if it has a CVT. Ideally, you want the CVT fluid changed every 30,000-40,000 miles.
.
I know for the 2017 model year a 6-speed manual transmission was offered. If you know how to drive stick that would be a definite keeper to get a 2.4L naturally aspirated inline-4 with the 6-speed manual transmission.
Sorry about that the 2017 has 74,000 miles for $19,500, CVT. Thanks for the input, sad cause the '18 looks so good but definitely wanting reliability over looks.
