low compression cylinder

2001 Toyota Corolla 1.8 L 4-cylinder 150-155Psi on Cyl 1, 3, and 4. Cyl 2 is showing ~135Psi

Head Gasket? Bad Exhaust Valve? There's no vacuum leak/sucking sound, no CEL. The car drives and shifts fine, some slight rumbling when idling in drive. But most notably a 2,000rpm cold start.

Any ideas?

Mileage?

That loss doesn’t sound significant, if it’d be more like 110 psi then I’d start to worry.

Also 2k rpm at cold start is the norm for Toyota engines of that era, my 2ZR with perfect compression (knocking on wood) does the same.

It's not that bad, only about a 10% or so difference, which is just at the high end of normal expectation.

If concerned you might want to do a wet cylinder compression test and compare readings. Put a few ounces of oil down the spark plug hole of the #4 cylinder and try again. If the reading comes up significantly the rings are wearing, if not you probably have a slightly leaky valve. You could also try a cylinder leakdown test and listen for air escaping into the exhaust. (Usually if there's a valve problem it will be an exhaust valve due to the high heat they're exposed to.)
