Hello, someone I know is looking at buying an 07 civic si. It looks to be a good deal, however there is one thing that I am unsure of. The owner of the car has put aftermarket lowering springs on the car. Would it be difficult to replace these springs with OEM coil springs from Honda? How expensive would this be? The only other mods the car has is a pair of aftermarket rims and a new shifter. The engine is stock. Thanks
The owner was probably a big fan of the "Too Fast, Too Furious" franchise, and regularly beat on the car. Probably ate a few speed bumps. There is likely a poorly installed cold-air-intake under the hood, an over-oiled K&N air filter, and a farty exhaust system. Meanwhile, the suspension is shot an other important components are worn out and neglected because owner spent all his money on body kits , hurriedly installed underglow lights, and other crap like that.
That's usually how Civics go. In any case, tell "someone" that he should have the car inspected by a mechanic.
The engine is stock and so is the exhaust. I wrote that in the original post.
It's not hard to do, but your friend will have to get OEM springs (about $240 new) and then get them swapped (how much depends on what shop he chooses) and then the car will need a wheel alignment done (cost depends on the shop he brings it to). Plus any deteriorated rubber parts and other miscellaneous parts found to be shot, as the car is 17 yrs old.
Thanks. I would just be buying an OEM strut assembly, right?
that's different...strut assemblies will cost more than just replacing the lowering spring back to stock.
