Can onboard computer be bypassed?

I follow your videos now a lot, you deterred me from buying a Mercedes, thank you for imparting your knowledge. I bought a used 2012 Toyota Tacoma instead and love it, I figure if the Afghans can take on the US Military with our expensive tanks, with Toyota pickups and win, they are good enough for me.

Is there a way to bypass the onboard computer on the newer cars and go back to something simpler to maintain? I think this way because I figure one good EM pulse and the all the cars will stop working. I have an old 1971 Bug and I love the simplicity of it, I won't have to worry about all the computer failures.

Not really possible on modern vehicles, everything is computer controlled from the fuel injection to the turn signals.

The best bugout vehicle for such an event would probably be an old, pre-computer diesel since it can be rigged to run on vegetable oil. (Good luck getting gas or diesel fuel - or much of anything else - if the lights go out.)

you have a better chance of getting hit by lightning. If you're going to worry about EMP pulses, why stop there? You might as well start preparing for everything else ... asteroids, supervolcanoes, CME's, the rising sea levels they keep promising ...
