I have a 2011 VW Golf wagon 2.5 with a five-speed manual transmission. It's got just over 180,000 kilometres (I'm in Canada). I know it's usually recommended to have automatic transmission fluid changed every 50-60 thousand miles, but what about manual transmission fluid? Of course Volkswagen says the fluid is a "lifetime fluid" and won't change it as part of their routine maintenance program at the dealership, which means the previous owner of the car probably didn't do it. Should I look into changing it now, or leave it alone?
Thanks
What does the owner's manual say? I have never heard of lifetime manual transmission oil.
The manual says nothing about it, as far as I've seen. I'm thinking it would be okay to change, since the fluid is just a lubricant in a manual transmission. I won't flush it, just change it.
id go ahead and drain and fill 3 times drive it in between till it gets hot use vw dealer fluid only and change filter if you want to keep it a while. just dont flush
The man said it is a MANUAL transmission which does not have a filter and is not flushed.
oh my bad missed that
