Hey scotty,
I have owned my 2016 Mazda 3 2.0 manual that has 39k miles on it for 2 months now. Now that it is getting cold outside, I have noticed that on cold starts it is very hard to shift from 1st to 2nd and has even grind once or twice while I tried to shift (all other gears shift fine). Once the car is warmed up there is no problem shifting. Is this common for manual cars? This is my first time owning one.
Thanks,
Justin
Was the fluid ever been changed? Start with that.
I noticed similar problem on my 2018 Auris. It still shifts but I have to do it more carefully when cold.
Otherwise that is common problem of manual gearboxes in several cars.
Check the fluid, … drain it and refill with Mazda spec fluid. It’s a cheap try, …
… and while you at Mazda getting oil, talk to a service manager. Here in cold Canada, Mazda at one point in the past, have been filling manual transmissions with ATF. It worked very well, … today, however, ATFs are of much thinner viscosity, so it may not be a case today.
