Hi

i am looking now at the Mazda CX-9 2008 to 2015

are those engines and transmission could last as long as a Toyota? Are there any reliability opinions on them?

thank you

They are good cars but not as good as Toyota. I would consider Sequoia or land cruiser for a three row SUV.

They will not last as long as a Toyota.  I personally would avoid that generation of the CX-9 because it used a Ford-designed engine (3.7L V6) where water pump is behind timing chain cover and also is driven by a timing chain, so if the water pump leaks worst-case it can take out the whole engine - just a poor design choice IMO.  Even if you catch it in time it’s expensive to replace the water pump due to the labor involved (engine/transmission have to come out).  There was even a class action lawsuit against this engine.  You are just better avoiding it and not dealing with any potential headaches down the line.

They are OK. Not like a Toyota, but not unreliable. Back then engine/transmissions were mostly Ford the newer ones were better made from 2015 onwards.

OP is talking about the 1st Gen CX-9 MY2008-2015 with the Ford engine.
