Scotty, what's the deal with the 17 different types/colors of coolant these days? Can't these manufacturers agree on a standard for coolant?

The color is not for fun and games...it's to differentiate the different coolant formulations. Each vehicle manufacturer recommends a specific coolant formulation to use for their system (i.e. BMW uses the blue coolant, JDMs use either the pink or green coolant, Fiat/Chrysler uses purple or orange I believe, and so on).
