Hey Scotty and everybody, I have a 2011 GMC Sierra 1500 Z71 with 112,500 miles. Currently it’s sitting on Method NV MR305 wheels which are 17” x 8.5” with 10 ply General Grabber X3 tires size 265 x 70 x 17”. Right now I have a leveling kit on the truck and I’m interested in getting 33” x 12.5” tires for it and I’ve found this set of tires has worn rather quickly. I put them on at 94,000 miles and I rotate them every 5,000 miles and I don’t drive like a bat out of hell lol. They still have a ton of life in them still but I’m curious to see what you guys think is a better tire than the General Grabber X3. I’d like a mud tire and a USA made one if possible. My friend told me Toyo Open Country tires are pretty good. What do you guys think? Price is not an issue I just want something better than the Generals if that is possible.
Thanks for reading and thanks for your help!

A few thoughts.  Pardon if I sound condescending; it’s a legitimate question.  Just hard to answer without coming off as insulting.

Now first of all, the X3 is a pretty good tire.  You may need to adjust your expectations. Sounds like you are on track to get 20-25,000 miles on current tires, which is maybe a little low but not unusual treadlife for mud terrains, depending on how they are used.

If I had to pick a gold standard, I’d recommend the BFG KM3’s. But if treadlife is a concern, you will probably do better with one of the more aggressive all-terrain tires, like the KO2’s or Goodyear Duratracks. Unless you are doing true mudding, those will be nearly as good off road and far better (and safer) on pavement.

And again, not to sound insulting, but if you have treadwear issues, make sure your shocks and alignment are ok.  Beyond that, you might get good advice from some of the Jeep or off road forums.

Good luck!

I had a '10 Silverado 1500 that I put Falken Wildpeaks on. Falken is a Japanese brand (SUMITOMO RUBBER NORTH AMERICA, INC.,) based in Rancho Cucamonga, California.

The Falken Wildpeak M/T looks like a good tire, but I think it is actually manufactured in Thailand (Falken has a pretty big operation there).

You're probably correct. They have plants in Thailand, Japan and Buffalo, NY.
