Multi Pro Tailgate...Opens on its own?

2019 Siera, involved in a truck vs deer incident in the woods.  Unfortunately both the truck and the deer lost.  7 weeks in the body shop, $26,000 in repairs to the right front corner (sensors/modules/metal/and on and on)

When I got the truck back, couple problems, kind of expected with this much repairs done.  Now, the multi pro tailgate simply...opens...all on its own.  WHILE DRIVING?  I know there is supposed to be a fail safe that prevents this when the vehicle is in motion, not anymore for some reason.  I do know the dealer replaced/re calibrated a couple modules, including the seat belt/air bag controller.  No air bag deployment occurred...but the seatbelts did lock tight and never released before going to the shop.

Can not pinpoint when/why it opens....and it is random...not every time I drive the truck...

Sunday, while pulling a trailer on the freeway...somewhere it popped open, I found it when I stopped and the gate had been riding on top of the trailer jack for miles...totally wasted the gate...

Any Ideas?   Ever heard of this?  Insurance guy is kind of baffled.

So much for the multi-pro tailgate. Realize everything in those cars is run by computers and electronics. Once a car gets in that kind of a big wreck really they should have totaled it. All the computer wiring and modules are interconnected and damage anywhere in the car can affect computer modules, wiring, shorts, ground systems, you name it. Other than tearing all vehicle partner place in all the wiring and modules it's going to be a rat's nest. Trying to figure out how the feedback is Megan to do that

Yikes, what an expensive problem.  My guess is there is a short or damaged relay coming from the gate-drop button in the center console.  The only thing I can think to do is find and disconnect the wire running from front to back of the truck, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that makes it completely inoperable.

Maybe there is an aftermarket kit to convert it to a mechanical lock (probably not). Otherwise, you may have to take it to an experienced auto electric guy (not a dealer) to try to diagnose it.

If you find a solution, come back and post a follow up. I have a 22 Sierra, and I’m curious what comes of it.
