Hello Scotty
I have a quick question for you, what is a fair price range to replace the gear oil pump in a 2017 Mustang GT seeing that the factory one is known to fail if the engine is moderately bosted be it with turbo or supercharger? I am from South Florida.
Regards
Jose
What do you mean we mechanics don't use the expression oil gear pump. Do you mean the oil pump for the engine. If you do me an oil pump it is a 12.6 hour job and most mechanics charge $150 an hour labor
Oil pumps can be relatively simple to change, or they can be a nightmare, depending on how they put the car together.
In my 1999 Ranger, the crossmember underneath the engine has more than enough clearance to pull the pan off. The problem is the transmission blocks the rear pan bolts. The transmission needs taken out to even replace a pan gasket. Nightmare.
In my '79 Pontiac Catalina, a big, old sedan, GM ran a huge crossmember right underneath the motor, so the engine needs unbolted from its mounts and exhaust in order to lift it up and get at the pan bolts. Also a nightmare. From Scotty's hour estimate, it sounds like a nightmare job.
Why are you trying to soup up a 2017 GT like that? The car has 435 horsepower stock, which is plenty. If you want to supercharge or turbocharge it, you should've gotten a Roush Mustang. They're supercharged and are actually built from the beginning to take the stress (forged, not cast internals, for example).
