My 88 Fiero GT is making clinking noises when I drive over bumps

Hi Scotty1

I'm a great fan of yours and have recommended your You Tube channel to all my friends and family.

Please don't laugh, but I own a 1988 Fiero GT 5-speed manual with only 28,000 miles. I bought it a couple of years ago (California Car), runs great and is lots of fun.  However, it makes clinking metallic noises when I drive over road bumps at low speeds (15-25 mph). I suspect struts/shocks could be the problem since the car is >30 years old and they're probably original. What do you think might be the problem?

Thanks!

Fun car!

At that age it could literally be anything in the suspension.  Hopefully something simple like struts or sway bar links.

Get it up on jack stands and give everything a close look.  Does it have excessive wheel play up/down or side to side?  Are any of the rubber boots cracked?

Both Scotty and others have good videos on sorting suspension noises. But maybe before you waste too much time check out the fiero forums to see what the common failures are.

Thanks Dad2LM2!
It's a lost of fun to drive. I've checked our several Fiero forums, also no cracked boots and no apparent excessive wheel play. I'll check out Scotty's videos too.
