2017 Hyundai Elantra - Suspension Noise - Clunking / Bottoming Out

I have a 2017 Elantra Limited with 80k miles, automatic.  It has a front suspension noise. When the car goes over large bumps or dips in the road, there is a clunking sound like the front suspension is bottoming out. It's almost like a metal to metal contact sound. The car rides fine over small/medium bumps and drives straight with no steering issues. I did some research on a variety of car forums and determined the problem was most likely faulty front struts.

I replaced the front struts this weekend and the car still has the same problem when going over large bumps. The clunk / metal to metal contact sound. I checked all the suspension components and they are all tight. Also, I think this problem is causing severe tire wear on the front tires. Anyone have an idea on where I can find the problem?

Thanks...

You need to more thoroughly examine all of your front suspension components from ball joints to control arm bushings to strut mounts. Since the problem only happens on severe bumps just pulling on parts by hand may not be enough, you may need some crowbar action. Either that or take it to a good independent mechanic to be checked out.

UPDATE: The problem ended up being a failed upper right engine mount. Thanks!
