My father used the wrong type of oil for years

Hey Scotty. I just got our old family car and I found out that my father's been using the wrong oil type for years. It's a 2007 ford freestyle with 226000 kms. It has a 5w20 engine and he's been using 5w30. Do you think I should switch back to 5w20 after having 5w30 in there for years?

should be fine. it's just a slightly different viscosity.

When Ford made the 98' f-150, they said use 5w30, then they realized you get a bit better gas mileage, and with synthetics they do just fine with 5w20, so they told everybody to switch. Like MountainmanJoe said, you likely didn't hurt a thing, but I would switch to 5w20 with a good synthetic oil if it were me.

I would switch personally, but as @MountainManJoe said, it isn't an extreme difference at all. I wouldn't worry about it hurting anything.
