Check the sending units for those gauges as well as the wiring and connectors for them.

Ok I got the temp sensor which would be the fuel sending unit if u can provide the link for that one too I really appreciate it thanks

You didn't specify whether your truck is the 1500 or 2500 series, but both appear to take the same part. On rockauto.com:

Note that part is for GMC vehicles without the "robust fuel system sender". We have no way of knowing whether your truck is equipped with that option.

Your sending units really should be tested before replacing them. There will be a specification for their range of resistance found in the shop manual. Shooting parts at a problem rarely results in a good outcome, it is better to do some diagnosis first. You could well have a wiring problem, bad ground, or even a computer problem if the computer is controlling those gauges.

I understand but the diagnostic was costing a lot so I thought it would be easier to try my self

It's pretty easy to check the sensors yourself if you have an ohm meter handy along with their resistance specifications.

Thanks also how tight should the cts be tightened it got tight fairly quick

It should be snug. There's probably a torque spec for but I have no idea what that is. As long as it's tight and it doesn't leak you should be OK.

Really it should go in at the same depth as the original part.

Ok so I replaced both coolant temp sensors the one on the side of the block and the one up top by the thermostat? And still nothing , someone mentioned if that didn’t fix the problem there there could be an issue in the wiring ? Where do you recommend for me to take? Someone that does electrical? Thanks for all your help so far

That's why we recommend doing diagnostics before replacing parts. Yes, if there is nothing obvious like frayed wiring you would need someone that works on vehicle electrical systems to trace where the fault is.

I have a 98 GMC Sierra 305 5.0 and I’m really worried about overheating because my temp reads cold and I’m 100% it’s not accurate because the weather right now is 102 and then my fuel gauge reads full at all times, any help would be greatly appreciated especially since I thought it was the cluster and just dropped 150 on a diagnostic just to find out my cluster is perfectly fine 🤯 😭

You posted twice about your temperature gauge problem about an hour apart. You may have missed the following when you read the forum rules, please keep it in mind for the future. Thank you.
