I was considering getting the new Acura TLX Type S that comes out next month. I am not a huge fan of the itty bitty engines with turbos strapped on like the base model with a 2.0 turbo, but the type S is a 3.0T V6. I feel like for the size of the engine and horsepower (355hp), it’s overbuilt and if it’s driven nicely (most of the time lol), it could be reliable. What’s your opinion on the new Type S? If you could answer in one of your next videos, I’d appreciate it! Thank you!

Are you a big risk taker, in other walks of life?
Lol not everything, but I do like to make informed decisions so I can weigh the outcomes before I consider buying. My mind isn’t set on it though; it hasn’t even come out yet so I haven’t even sat in one. My options I’m considering are a Lexus ES or RX350, the type S, and the MDX.
If you’re considering only brand new vehicles, test drive them all & pick your favourite one. Since you do realise that the long term reliability of any of them will be unknown, since you’re sticking to Lexus & Acura, fingers crossed they should be the best of the lot when compared to other OEMs.
True. In general, I typically consider those two makes because they usually are of better reliability. Waiting on the type S to come out so I can test drive it!

I think you should check out the TLX Type S, along with the Lexus GS/ES/RX and see which one you like better. I personally am not a fan of the new TLX but thats just personal choice. Keep in mind all the complicated engines and transmissions, and the fact it being all new, make it have questionable long term reliability. You will never know which one you like better until you compare it to its Lexus competitor, IMO the GS.
Karem, my first choice in a Lexus was a GS. Came to find out they discontinued the GS last year due to poor sales, it’s being replaced by the ES apparently. I’ll have to take a look and test drive them. Thank you for your insight!
Kerem* sorry
Generally speaking brand new, I’m a huge fan of Type-S or Type-R for more experienced drivers. I wouldn’t recommend putting a kid or new driver in a Type-S or Type-R.
I’m not a big fan of Type-S or Type-R used. Not because of the car itself, but because drivers usually drive the hell out of them.
Not much is know about the new TLX Type-S because it’s not even out yet.
With that said, there are only two brands I am willing to gamble on first iterations of new generations. Honda/Acura and Toyota/Lexus.
With that said, the J-Series engine from Honda has a strong history. And the problem ones were the ones with cylinder deactivation. Which I don’t think the TLX has. The turbo may also be of concern, but I like my odds with Honda/Acura.
Kaizen, we’re on the same wavelength. I’ll gamble with only those makes you mentioned, nothing else. I would only get a sport type car that’s new for the exact reason you mentioned. It’s the same reason I’ll never buy a car that used to be a rental either. Hell, I drove a Corolla like a madman when I had to rent it for a few days.
I didn’t know much about the J series so I’m glad to hear it’s had a strong history. But now you’ve sparked an interest to start with researching it if that’s the engine that the type S has. Thank you!
