Hi guys, I wanna start by saying thank you to those that took the time to respond and look over this question. Now getting that out of the way, I am looking at upgrading my current vehicle which is a 2006 Acura TL. I really want something sporty, handles similar at the very least 90% of my current vehicle, and most of all reliable. With the constant use of turbos, I realize it was inevitable I would end up owning one of these vehicles so I broke it down to these 2. The BMW 340i M sport (2017 specifically) and the new upcoming Acura TLX Type-S. Both have similar configs but I cannot for the life of me decide what to commit to. The Acura in the long haul will be the more reliable option on paper but I have always longed to own a BMW but never have due to the infamy of the German cars. While it seems simple enough, all my life I know nothing but Honda's and Toyota's so just the thought of buying another one makes me feel regret and guilty of not giving BMW a chance. I want to break out of the Japanese car environment so bad and from what I hear, the B58's under the hood of the 340i is relatively trouble free and dare I say reliable. They both have positives and negatives but do I go with my head or my heart?

You only live once. If you want to try the BMW, I say go ahead BUT make sure you get an extended warranty. It won't be cheap, but it will be worth it on that car.

I had a 335xi coupe with the twin turbo V6 once and it was a blast, but I used my warranty quite a bit. If you want to try it, follow your heart. You can always come back to Acura later as you know the Japanese brands are reliable.

Between those two, I would go with the Acura, but if you want the BMW - always keep it under the manufacturer’s warranty.  Don’t be fooled - even if the powertrain is “solid” the rest of the vehicle especially all those fancy tech and electronics can still break on you and it can get very expensive to  fix.  You always have to look at the whole vehicle, not just the powertrain even though that’s where our minds go first (understandably).  I would either lease it and get out of your system, or if you buy it - keep stock under warranty and extend the warranty if you really love it.  Then get rid of before the warranty expires:  that’s the smart way to do this.

You're question reminds me of a line from the movie "Unforgiven."  Clint Eastwood said -"we all get what we deserve..."
