2005 Suzuki Forenza with 90,000 miles. Car was running fine, had a little bit of a weak battery so we had to be careful leaving doors open and whatnot once the car was off. Couple days ago, the car didn't start but dash lights and things came on, typical signs of a dead battery for this car. Tried to jump the battery, nothing happened. Took the battery in to be slow charged overnight, brought it home and hooked it back up, power came on, tried to start the car and we lost all power. Took the battery back in to have it checked and they said that we needed a new one. So we bought the new battery, hooked it up, power came on, alarm was going off, and we lost all power again and haven't had it back even after disconnecting the battery over night. Continuity testers say that there's power getting to the alternator, but most fuses and relays have no power coming to them, fuses not blown. Main ground wires are solid. No power around the ignition switch. I am so lost and have no idea what my next step is. Thank you for any advice or tips.
There may be a fusible link that burned out, especially if you jumped the car from another vehicle rather than a jump start pack. Look for a smaller diameter wire on the positive battery cable and trace it. Could be on either end of the cable.
Could also be a bad ignition switch, 17 years old.
