2006 Mustang Check engine light came on AFTER emissions( did not pass due to new battery?)
Hey, so recently 7 fays ago i bought a v6 2006 Pony Package Mustang, manual body type sedan, but is a coupe. The guys father was a mechanic and worked on it. Pretty much in mint shape, engine is nee and has 46k miles on it, new clutch, new starters, new battery, sparks plugs have been changed. New cool air intake. The only thing that wasnt changed was cat converter , transmission and alternator i believe . I went to get emissions yesterday and everything passed except; Catalyst Not Ready and Evap System Not Ready. Everythings else passed and 0 DTC codes. MIL Engine off/on PASS, Connecter status pass, MIL commanded on PASS, Communication Status pass. OBD readiness FAIL. They asked if i had a new battery i said yeah it has like 40 miles on it. They said drive a bit and comeback. But when i got in the car to leave NOW the Check Engine light is on. Was not on before. I need some insight please . These people Oceanside in Old Saybrook CT are known to be sketchy and f cars up but i had no plates and it was down the road so i went there
When you change the battery, unless you use a memory saver the I/M readiness monitors reset and will not go back to ready status until the drive cycle is completed.
I don't know why you seem to believe it's so remarkable that the check engine light is now on. That can happen at any time. You need to scan for codes to see what the issue is.
As for inspection goes every state is different. Some let you have 2 incomplete mils other let you have only 1 but doesn't matter which one it is. Your more strict States your cat and evap must be complete and can have only 1 incomplete . As Chuck said check engine lights come on, it does happen. Get your scan tool and pull the code and see what it is.
I have a feeling it's connected to the battery being replaced. Some cars throw a check engine light when drive cycles aren't complete or if it's taking to much time. I don't know much about your car but I do remember hearing something about drive cycles and check engine light coming on. Hook up your scan tool and report back with the code and we'll go from there.
