New Corolla vs Prius

Which is a better deal? I'm leaning corolla cause it costs less price wise and it cost less to repair over time. The prius would save on gas but is that gonna outweigh maintenence cost and the higher price (plus higher tax)? (Not the corolla hybrid)

If you keep the car forever, get the Corolla

If you want great fuel economy and will sell it in 5-10 years, get the Prius.

From how you formulated your inquiry, I interpret that you are more interested in a best deal, rather than, … say, making a social statement. Corolla is a deal, … Prius is a social statement. Current reality, …

I suggest,  therefore, you go for a deal, … because it is a better deal!  And that’s what you looking for. Yes?

As a side bar: … Corolla is the best value amongst basic transportation vehicles, … Prius, on the other hand, is the best value among hybrid vehicles.

I think the answer will differ person to person terms of what is the better deal.

It would depend on how long you plan to keep the car, how many miles you plan to put on it.

Keep long and more miles, Prius.

Lower mileage and shorter ownership, Corolla.

A mix of both. A toss up with a slight edge to Corolla.

Both are great vehicles.

My neighbor has bought 2 priuses (09 and 17) and has consistently had problems with both of them starting at 75K miles or so. The 09 had to have something with the recharging system replaced and the battery wore out after 200K or so. Meanwhile my 09 Focus I bought at the same time went 285K problem free until I sold it 2 weeks ago.

I would go Corolla. Skip the hybrid costs and problems.

I would also recommend the Civic. It has a much more intriguing driving experience and they last forever.

Up to your taste.
in my area I can see taxi companies use both Prius and Corolla as their fleet vehicles. Which means they are both passed ultra high mileage test and fuel economy test.
