My daughter’s boyfriend killed the engine after a botched oil change

My daughter is driving my dad's 2014 for Escape. It has about 25K miles and the engine died due to a botched oil change her boyfriend thought he knew how to do. The shop says it will cost about $9500 for the new engine and all the work. They aid there are only new engines also. With the current state of the car market we were going to get it fixed. What are your thoughts? Car is otherwise in good condition. Thanks Scotty. Love your channel too!

Sounds like a crazy amount of money to put into a nearly 8-year-old Escape. I would look for a good used engine from a low-mileage wreck.

One thing for sure

don't let that boyfriend near the car!

Or ANY car. 10 up votes for mittegag!

I'm with @ChuckTobias on this one. I wouldn't blow that much on an old Escape.

I'd either check junkyards for good motors or just buy a new vehicle for that kind of money.

You could make a nice planter out of it.

Expensive planter! Is it worth anything the way it is?

Just kidding. It is probably worth a lot to someone with this era Escape who would like to have a parts car to keep theirs together. You might be surprised how much you can get for it.

With the way the market is for used cars, would it be feasible to fix it and then sell it and possibly make a few thousand?

I don't think you would break even on that deal but hey, if you could get a used engine cheap enough, it might work out.

If you could find a very cheap, used motor and put it in yourself, you might be able to make a few dollars but not much.

Out of the car or the boyfriend?

Neither one, Thrust!

Hahaha
