Scotty, at 73 years of age I am considering buying my first new car. I have historically performed all my own work. I am looking at a Acura MDX or a Lexus RX350. Which do you recommend? I do admit that I am concerned about valve issues with the direct injection
thanks

The Acura MDX has a 3.5L V6 with cylinder deactivation and direct injection, whereas the Lexus RX350 has a 3.5L V6 with NO cylinder deactivation and both port and direct injection.
Both vehicles will probably outlast you (don’t take it the wrong way), but the Lexus will be better as you don’t have to worry about carbon buildup on back of intake valves nor potential cylinder deactivation issues - just less things to worry about addressing, especially on fixed income.
Definitely the Lexus, but also if you don't have to have a luxury vehicle then maybe consider Toyota too; Lexus is just their luxury division.
