Hi Scotty,

Many Toyota Tundras and Lexuses with the new 3.4L V6 Turbo engine have been reported to experience engine failure due to damage on the front bearing, which ultimately destroys the engine. The cost for replacing the engine block is $29k! Toyota and Lexus are currently replacing the engines under warranty, but imagine if this were to happen after the warranty expires and the truck owner has to pay $29k out of pocket. I am attaching a link to a video at the 12:45 mark, where they discuss the engine issue.

Hyundai Motor launches first application of Nano Cooling Film

Scotty mentioned it in the video

well it has 'nano' in the name, so I should put all my money into it right?

Interesting that they chose Pakistan for their experiment.

A funny occurence Scotty mentioned in his video

Not a question necessary, but more of an observation.  Scotty has been talking about how Tesla is losing market share and inventory is piling up.  I drove by a local dealership and they are chock full of cars (I think some were parked on the grass honestly).

Well, a guy from my BJJ class this morning who worked for Tesla was laid off because he was notified they were shuttering their entire (I mean it sounds like their entire world) Supercharging operations.  That sounds HUGE!

Tesla lays off executives, cuts Supercharger division - Autoblog

Also, wondering if this SEC filing has anything to do with the layoffs
sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1318605/000121465924007790/o429248px14a6g.htm

Sounds like there's a tree hugger company that wants Tesla to stop mining for polymetallic nodules which have minerals in the deep sea to source their battery development.

"The nodules, several centimeters in size, form at the sediment surface at 4000–6000 m in water depth. They are rich in the metals used in new energy batteries, such as nickel (1.25–1.5%), cobalt (0.2–0.25%), manganese (27–30%), and copper (1–1.4%), and have tremendous potential for commercial development [ 1, 2 ]"

Any thoughts or additional inside info on this would be appreciated.

Well, that'll certainly be interesting if they ever try to pull it off. I can see people hijacking cars doing all kinds of weird things you know how computer hackers are

Funny...the article says the trucks will save fuel because they won't have to start and stop as often as manned trucks, but wait....if they are driving 24/7, then they are using fuel when manned trucks might be stopped for refueling or a break when no fuel is used; how do they conclude this is better fuel-wise for an unmanned truck to run 24/7, as well how this is this great for the "environment and climate change" if they can run trucks longer? Don't they spew out climate changing smog? Again, climate change is just a hoax and a stick to beat people into not using any vehicles for anything and this is a HUGE SHAM!

The link below is a story about 'self driving' trucks to start deliveries on public freeways soon.

Do a video on this Scotty, your comments?

"How does GM find it ok to sell these expensive crate engines and not test them? "

GM applies the same attention to detail and quality checks with crate engines that they apply to complete cars. Look at the Corvette C8 - major failures and problems on their low volume "halo" car right from day one.

0

I don't know if you've seen this already, but recently the guys at Donut just bought a brand new, never turned over LSX crate. They had a gentleman there who has worked on many LS/LT engines for racing applications, who suggested to them that they tear it down to inspect the newly assembled engine.

They found that the engine was never fired before shipping. They found issues with deep wear scars on the journal bearings and that the locking pins for the pin that holds the piston to the rod, were nowhere to be seen.

How does GM find it ok to sell these expensive crate engines and not test them? How do they forget something as important as locking pins on the piston? How does the journal bearings get damaged on an engine they never test fired and never put fluids in?

this sounds like a joke

"Dealers will install a tube to let gasoline flow away from hot surfaces to the ground below the vehicle." What could possibly go wrong?

yeah injectors cracking on a 1 year old vehicle is totally normal . No we won't replace them because they're supposed to work like that. It cleans the outside of the engine. It's a feature, in fact next year we'll charge extra for it. :silly:

The government doesn't actually care about "green" vehicles, unless you mean greenback.

Ouch, how do Trudeau and like minded politicians get away with this crap...

Well usually when there's an investigation , he just stacks the committee with his own minions.

that's really unfortunate. Imagine you use the bridge every day for your commute and now you have to detour through the busy city for the next two years.

It will probably affect jobs at harbour and also automobilism there

Project Farm tests OEM branded engine oils , versus Mobil 1.

Ford comes out on top.

Roughly speaking, you get what you pay for except for Toyota (last place) who overcharges.

Leaked News - The Toyota 1:6:90 rule

Toyota has what it calls the 1:6:90 rule. Its scientists have calculated that the amount of raw material needed to make a long-range EV could instead be used to make six plug-in electric hybrid vehicles or 90 hybrid vehicles.

DeLoreans were the same way, problems with rust on stainless steel bodies. You can't skimp out on stainless steel, unless you're in a desert or something like that. Most people don't live in desert areas. Stainless isn't very machine-friendly, either, that's why ol' Elon created those angles. Stainless steel is used in things like silverware and refrigerator doors, because they're basically boxes. In the case of spoons, stainless is only slightly concave. It was tried once, and it failed. Elon tried it again, to be "different" and it bit him in the rear.

0

'But they are made of stainless steel, they SHOULDN'T rust!' EXACTLY!!! You know as well as I do that there are MANY different types, grades and qualities of stainless steel, and it shouldn't surprise anyone that Elon cheaped out on this one. Cyber Trucks are already starting to rust after only 2 Months....TWO MONTHS!!!! *falls over laughing* Yer going to have a FIELD DAY with this one! [Go nutz man!!!!]

The artificial car shortage in Canada

https://www.tiktok.com/@wearecanadaproud/video/7315143958659665158

Some background ...
.
Starting in 2035, Guilbeault’s (that's Canada's "Minister of Environment and Climate Change ". Yes we have one of those. 🤦‍♂️ what a job) plan decrees that 100 per cent of vehicles sold in Canada will have to be net-zero emission.
.
By no coincidence, 2035 is also the year Guilbeault expects Alberta’s electricity grid to be net-zero.
.
Smith says that under those twin demands there’s no way the province can generate enough electricity to charge hundreds of thousands of electric vehicles every day — not to mention the vast challenge of building charging stations in every corner of the province.
.
By 2026, 20 per cent of vehicles for sale must be electric or plug-in hybrids with longer range.
.
The target rises nearly every year until it hits 60 per cent by 2030, and finally reaches the total ban on combustion vehicle sales by 2035.

"... the idea that within two years’ time 20 per cent of all cars sold in Canada have to be zero emissions, it’s bananas. It’s not achievable." , she says.

“I can just warn Albertans that if this truly is implemented the way they say, by the time we get to Jan. 15 of 2026 we’ll have sold our allotment of gas-fired vehicles for that year.”

Owners of older Toyota RAV4s and Corollas are being told to not drive their cars.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_g3FipwHQJg

"The recall impacts certain Toyota Corolla and Matrix vehicles from the 2003 and 2004 model years, along with the 2004 and 2005 RAV4 SUV. The recall also involves roughly 11,000 2003 and 2004 Pontiac Vibe vehicles which were made at the same factory as the Toyota Matrix vehicles included in the recall."

Drivers of ICE cars have been known to ignore a flashing CEL, so why would the NHTSA expect a Tesla driver to even notice the font size?

0

Font size.  Really.

https://www.newsmax.com/finance/streettalk/tesla-recall-u-s/2024/02/02/id/1151979/

I suppose with my old eyes I should understand. But it seems like this might waste a lot of man hours that could be spent on something more productive.

It's a safety issue. Mechanical malfunction indicators need to be visible. Totally justified IMO..

Not particular news related but came across a youtube channel WeberAuto. Its a channel from a college in Utah with the professor sharing his knowledge about car history and in-dept operations of transmissions.  Definitely worth listening and learning. I learned a lot about history of ATF and Toyota's research on improvements.

I watched that history of ATF a while back, very interesting stuff!

great channel. We have links to it all over the forum.

Boy....that Scotty can coin a phrase, can't he? At 9:57 "range anxiety". That's a good one!

I've heard it a lot. I don't think Scotty came up with it.
