Hello Scotty,
I've had my 2001 Isuzu Trooper for twenty years and it's getting time to trade it in. I'm looking at a couple of SUV's that seem to fit the bill.
My 2001 Trooper is RWD and has a towing capacity of 5000 pounds and a cargo capacity of 90.2 SqFt. I do tow trailers and boats from time to time so both of those are weighted heavily in the decision. I'm looking for something that is 2 - 4 years old. Not New and not AWD.
Toyota 4Runner Towing 5,000 lbs, cargo 89.7 sqft, mpg 17 - 21, range 437
Toyota Sequoia - Towing 7000 lbs, cargo 120 sqft, mpg 13 - 17, range 390
Nissan Armada - Towing 8500 lbs, cargo 95 sqft, mpg 14 - 19, range 442
So I'm leaning towards the Nissan for price and towing ability, but am I trading dependability for the price savings? Would I do better by getting a Toyota with more miles and try to save a little there?
I like the Sequoia, but geesh, they are expensive. So I'm thinking of the 4Runner as a less pricey smaller version of the Sequoia.
Do you think the Nissan's dependability is suspect or would the dependability of the Toyota make up for the price difference?
Thanks!
Vaughn
The dependability of the Toyota will definitely make up the price gap. The Armada is not very reliable but the Sequoia can run forever with proper maintenance. So can the 4Runner, but if you need the extra towing capacity get the Sequoia.
I would choose 4runner if I don't want to tow a lot. Cheaper maintenance and good reliability.
How much max weight do you really need to tow? Start there. It’s always a good idea to have some margin when towing and not max out.
