Nissan Murano 06 rattling

I have a Nissan Murano 06 with 162,585 miles on it. I’m hearing a rattle in my engine it could be The timing chain. I asked a mechanic he would charge me $850 but I just ask for a quote. My thing is should I go for it. But I already put a lot of money into my car. I don’t want to spend a lot more money. Any advice? I would appreciate it

My advice is don't throw good money at a lost cause. I don't know what you've already replaced on that Murano, but the transmission could very well come up next. Those used the horrible Jatco CVT so odds are it could go out in the near future. If the engine is just rattling a little, I suggest you try selling the car ASAP and get the best price for it you can. Instead of pouring more money into it, invest that money into a more reliable replacement - like a Toyota Rav4 or Highlander.

Thanks for the advice but this is the sound that my car is making. https://youtu.be/Te4RdPfcM9Q

To me, it sounds like the rods are knocking. It could be the timing chain too, but it sounds too loud for just a timing chain issue. Check out this video for what rod knock sounds like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmtBqNnnvrs

Fixing rod knock means rebuilding the whole engine, which is not at all worth it on a 15-year-old Murano. I'd say it's best to just cut your losses and start fresh with another car. Good luck!

Well, first thing is it is a Nissan. Typical things that happen with the Nissan. No, to the $850. to guess at a timing chain change. Is it a daily driver? If not, rule out other things first and then decide on the chain deal. Sounds like a timing problem though. What does a scan show? Check plugs, and ignition system and make sure there are no discrepancies with the battery. You need more information to make an informed decision.

I only drive it to work which is 15 minutes from my home. But this Friday I’m replacing my plugs. https://youtu.be/Te4RdPfcM9Q

Are you positive it’s the timing chain & not just a worn out pulley?

It makes this sound but not that loud like the video

Almost sounds like pinging by the video? What kind of gas do you use and it looks like your very low going up a hill

I was using plus gas meaning the middle one. It’s a YouTube video but mine does that but going slow RPM
