Scotty, you've expressed negative opinions on both GM and Nissan, my question is in regards to quality, do you think Chevy / GMC or Nissan is more reliable (In today's world, 2021) .
depends what you're looking for
Like others said above, its a model per model, but in Scotty's reliability rankings he put Nissan above GM by one spot I believe. It also depends on what you want. If you are fine with 8-10 years 100k miles out of a car you could be reasonably happen with a Nissan, where the biggest issue is the CVT, but in GM products, the quality is so low that anything could happen whether it would be the engine blowing up at 1500 miles or lasting until 100k miles.
You also have to consider, like Scotty said, Nissan CVTs have been improving (though VERY slightly) in the last 5 10 years and now are switching to geared automatics, while GM is all over the place.
Taking examples from Scotty, his customers with a Chevy Cruze would go through 3 4 transmissions in 100k miles, but I doubt a Nissan would go through more than 2, if thats any better. Now the Americans gave up on small cars.
But again, 2021 is a different year we don't have accurate data on reliability anything could happen but I think Nissan is just very slightly better.
With Nissan and GM, it's a model per model basis.
Honestly if your only planning on driving a GM or Nissan under 100k you’ll be fine with either. But those companies are not in the business of making vehicles going into the 200k range without major repair. In my opinion both those companies should of closed doors for good awhile ago. Unfortunately the American government is in the business of bailouts and Nissan had their hands in other things.
