Nissan pathfinder CVT opinions

Scotty:

What's your opinion of the newer Nissan pathfinders with the V6 with the CVT transmission.  Are the CVT's for the V6's made better than the ones for the 4 cylinder engines?  I am considering one for purchase or lease, but am leaning toward lease based on your overall assessment of Nissan CVT's.  I was wondering if the CVT failures are more a function of bad maintainence or just bad design/manufacturing.  I am willing to change the CVT fluid on schedule, but was wondering if the CVT's are problematic regardless of proper maintainence.  Thanks.

I don't have any experience with one but generally they tend to have problems as they age over 100k miles.

Your going to hear a lot of negativety here but the v-6 ones are stronger than the 4 cylinder version. A lot of the issues are lack of maintenance related as long as you maintain it then it should last you just fine.  The pathfinders have been lasting just fine.

Thanks. I guess there is only positivity since you are the only responder. I will keep rearching consumer reviews on edmunds and other sites before making a decision.

I would still lean toward lease on a Nissan with CVT.

The one in that video is a 3rd Gen (MY 2005-2012) Pathfinder which had a RWD setup with a regular automatic transmission. The 4th Gen (MY 2013-2021) is FWD setup with the Jatco CVT. The 5th Gen (MY 2022+) is also FWD but with the ZF 9-speed automatic.

I know, I linked the video to share Scotty’s opinion on the Pathfinder, in general. The Jatco CVTs are garbage, indeed.
