Should I buy a 2022 Nissan Sentra in Israel?

Hi Scotty, I was on the verge of buying a new Nissan sentra 2022 from a dealer when I came across your YouTube channel whilst browsing. Let me start by saying that I live in israel and a new Nissan sentra 2022 costs around 45000usd. Not a cheap vehicle, so I can't afford to make any mistakes. On watching your channel, I came across the issues that Nissan have with their CVT transmissions. I really like this car, but now I am concerned about the above issues. I guess my question is.....are the new Nissan models affected by this production flaw, and is this car safe to buy. Thanks for your time

That car is pure junk. Nothing is good about it.

I would still shy away from the Sentra.
Test drive a Toyota or Honda, and you will notice much smoother CVT operation.

Thanks man!!!

That car isn't worth it. I don't know about the car prices there, but if it's economically feasible for you look into a Toyota or Honda instead.

Well it's a newer gen Sentra (seems a lot better than the previous-gen which was well, junk), but who knows how long the newer ones will last, only time will tell. For now, go and roadtest the Toyotas and Hondas, assuming they are not super expensive, which hopefully they aren't.

I do not recommend it. (am also Israeli)

First of all it has the same CVT as on French cars, and it is weak.In Israel a lot of gearbox shops are busy all day fixing these French CVTs, and the last thing you want is these fools picking inside of your car.

In Israel, due to cars being treated as disposable goods, Most garages are completely ignorant about the maintenance of CVTs and other critical powertrain components in general - if you drive in the correct manner for a CVT and make sure it gets good maintenance you can get ±140k miles before major repairs.

But I am seeing some of these gearboxes need serious repairs even at 90k miles, even though Nissan and Renault claim "They're more reliable than what's on the Juke"

When you are looking for cars in Israel, you need something easy to repair or really popular unless you want constant headaches.

I personally ordered a Kia SUV with a 6-speed automatic for $ 32k, but the delivery is about 3 months.

I also drive a Kia Hybrid SUV that's a bit troublesome but helps me save on gas, it was very expensive ($48k) but it gets amazing gas milage and has very nice lane keeping and cruise control.

The Subaru CrossTrek (Subaru XV) is not car I usually recommend, but in Israel with their popularity, the 5 year warranty or 180,000 km warranty - with good maintenance they're great.

The new Yaris Cross Hybrid is going to be a hot car, it's relatively expensive for it's size, but it seems to have Toyota quality and it's a super popular vehicle that will have a second hand market.

There are no great sedans on the market (like the old Corolla, Civic, or Elantra)

The only good family sedan car is the Corolla Hybrid, it's not much cheaper than a CH-R and that's much more popular.

As for the rest: Mazda has issues with electronics, Ford has problematic engines, Honda constantly has bizarre issues (and their 2nd hand value is low, their small SUV cost nothing used - and for good reason), and the French are also not making any good family sedans - all of them are just producing SUVs.

TLDR:

Translated TLDR:

New Nissans are not what they used to be... e

ven old Sentra boxes were weak so that I know people who replaced them under warranty than then again had to fix them at their own expense.

You're better off with a quality built CVT - like Toyota's K120, a conventional 6 speed auto like on some outgoing Kia models, or like on Mazdas (Mazda isn't cheap, and their 3 model is not currently great but something like their CX-30 is quite a nice car.) Good luck!

Mercifully we get a manual version of the 2022 Sentra (both base and fully loaded) in Canada and as far as I know, they actually use them for racing in Canada for the Sentra Cup. They are definitely better than the CVTs.

@InfinitiFxFan
In Israel, the OP is also from here - we only have it as an auto in one trim level (2.0L HR-series engine, SV trim level, automatic - due to this place being tiny and them being unpopular, compared to like 10 trim levels in 3 body styles (sedan, hatch, wagon + soon there’ll be a cross) on the Corolla)
I’d guess that with a manual transmission they’re quite good, it shares a platform and many parts with the Megane IV, so there’s most likely still plenty of cheaply built parts that might fail but definitely good enough…
With a manual aren’t particularly unreliable, with Renault it’s - “you can’t know when and what is going to break - but it will”

The newer 19 and up Nissans and cvt’s don’t have the same problems earlier versions do. The cars have been holding up as far as I’ve seen this far but they’re still new. On that price tag though I’ve never heard of a 40k dollar Sentra in my life I would think fully loaded many 30k ish range
